It had also been decided that instead of having a traditional ‘Secret Santa’ exchange of gifts, each member would bring a gift of toiletries which would then be given to the Women’s Refuge in Cheadle. Members were very generous indeed with their gifts, which filled an entire car boot.
Our WI Christmas Party was thoroughly enjoyed by the forty-five members who attended. Everybody arrived in party mood wearing cheerful Christmas clothes, accessories and make-up. The atmosphere was made all the more convivial aided and abetted by generous quantities of mulled wine and warm mince pies. On their arrival members were faced with two quizzes. This was followed by a number of good old-fashioned party games which brought out the intensely competitive spirit of many, and caused huge hilarity. When exhaustion began to set in, the party closed with some quiet carol singing by candlelight. For this we opened the curtains of the village hall so that the outside village Christmas lights could add an extra festive dimension.
