We also had a display with some committee meeting minutes dating back to the 1940s when the members were seeking help on ' how to get a new village hall' It was a fascinating insight into the past of the group and the village hall.

Several members have expressed an interest in finding out more about the aims of the expedition, and our member Viv's daughter, Louise’s, involvement.
Below are several websites that contain more information, Facebook - www.facebook.com/seawomenexpeditions https://gofund.me/d252bc19 - at the beginning of this site there is a video where Louise outlines the aims of the expedition and her involvement. It also contains updates that she has posted as she has been preparing for the expedition. https://dredwardsvr.com Louise’s website where she introduces us to the world of VR – virtual reality. Louise is very excited about this adventure and she is looking forward, next year, to sharing with us the results of the expedition. The Sea Women 2022 Expedition to Norway’s Arctic Fiords
The daughter of one of our members has been chosen to go on a prestigious expedition to Northern Norway in November. The all-women group of scientists, sailors, explorers, photographers and artists will research the impact of humans and the changing environment on orca behaviour and also monitor the disappearance of sea ice in the Arctic. Their aim is to encourage action to protect vulnerable regions through research, advocacy, education and art. Her daughter has agreed to give a talk to our WI next year when all the data has been analysed. It should make for a very interesting and informative meeting. Further Information Facebook - www.facebook.com/seawomenexpeditions https://gofund.me/d252bc19 - at the beginning of this site there is a video outlining the aims of the expedition. There are also updates on preparations for the expedition. On a sweltering July evening, Denstone W.I. were treated to an extremely entertaining talk by the Rev. Garry Higgs. Garry's talk was entitled " How old am I?" and a large clue was parked outside in the shape of a 2025 gleaming Rolls Royce. We were shown lots of picture clues to the year of its birth, Ramsay MacDonald, Benny Goodman's big band, a postage stamp, to name a few. Some of us managed to guess the correct year, 1934, Garry then explained how his father bought the car after he retired, he had spotted it on e-bay and persuaded Garry to go and look at it with him. Despite Garry's best efforts to dissuade him his father fell in love with and bought the car and between them Garry, his children and his father have spent years "doing it up"
The car is now a beauty and we were allowed to sit in it, blow the hooter and generally examine every nook and cranny, pictured are our president Rose Barker, Rev. Garry and Margaret Cook a member who was born in the same year as the car! Our recent evening walk from Lower Micklin Farm. It was a glorious evening with wonderful views of the Staffordshire countryside. Afterwards, we were entertained with drinks and lovely courgette cake courtesy of Mike and Maggie.
.We had 5 demonstrations – wood carving, felt work, flower arranging, patchwork and quilting, and a kitchen surprise! Members visited 2 demonstrations and were amazed at the many and varied skills of all the contributors. To conclude the evening, the flower arrangements were displayed along with the canapes that had been prepared by the kitchen groups. All agreed that it had been a wonderful, informative and social evening with the hope that it could be repeated again.

St. Kizito Primary – St. Kizito Primary (stkizito.org) Eco-Friendly Gifts | Discover Ethical, Recycled & Green Gift Ideas (cycleofgood.com) On Monday the 17th of January our planned craft evening had to be postponed because of covid regulations and so Mr Joe Lewis stepped in to give a talk on the voluntary work of the Krizevac project. This is a local charity who support communities in Malawi by providing de-commissioned Post Office bicycles, old sewing machines, school furniture and second hand books to one of the World's poorest communities. The charity also make money by selling re-conditioned bicycles and have built a church, an enterprise centre, primary schools, an I.T college and a children's centre. Rose Barker thanked Joe for an informative, entertaining and very interesting talk and he left with the promise of people searching their attics for old sewing machines and books as well as garages for old bikes!
On a bitterly cold Saturday, 14 intrepid souls gathered for a New Year's walk. We met at Thorpe and walked a circular route, taking in Blore, Ilam and Dovedale, the first three miles were undertaken in hazy sunshine with crisp conditions underfoot and beautiful 360 degree views. At Ilam we sat underneath the arches to enjoy a picnic lunch accompanied by hot mulled wine, brought for us by a kind member. During the second half of our walk the frost had thawed, leaving deep, slippery mud and then the mist descended! Conditions were extremely challenging and those of us with walking poles were very grateful for their support and those who had left poles at home ended up with very muddy trousers! However we all survived, with the assistance of friends, and then drove to the always welcoming home of Wendy and Richard Forrester for refreshments of hot drinks, mince pies and shortbread.
