Five plots were dug, seeds were spread then covered with a thin layer of compost and watered in.
Little green fencing has been erected around each plot to protect them from the council mowers.
Let's hope the seed grow!
Nine members of Denstone WI participated in the poppy sowing plus Sue Edmonds, who has been the prime mover behind the idea of making a splash of colour on this 100th WW1 anniversary.

Multi - tasking Denstone WI Members had a very busy evening at their April meeting. Mary Spencer presided and welcomed over forty members along to the evening.
On completion of the business meeting, the Annual meeting followed, with reports from the Treasurer, the Secretary and the retiring President, Mary Spencer. Mary was warmly thanked by Gill Brown for her three years in office and received a beautiful plant to remind her of her time at the helm of this very busy WI. The evening was still young, and after the formal business, members had a chance to meet Janneke Gorzeman and her colleagues as they gave a short presentation on Nordic Walking and allowed members to try walking with the poles and ask questions. Janneke detailed the health benefits of this exercise and members had the opportunity to sign up for a taster session on Monday 23rd April at the JCB lake. The final activity of the evening was a Cheese and Wine Social, which allowed members to relax and chat with friends and celebrate another successful year as part of a very busy WI. |
